About the CPPS
The CPPS sets a standard for the knowledge that patient safety professionals need. The certification is administered by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).
What the course covers
The course is built around the areas of the CPPS exam:
- Culture: building a safety culture that is open, fair and focused on learning
- Leadership: how leaders set priorities and support safe care
- Patient safety risks and solutions: finding risks and putting proven solutions in place
- Measuring and improving performance: using data to track safety and improve it
- Systems thinking, design and human factors: designing systems that make the safe way the easy way
- How the exam works and how to prepare for it

- Patient safety leads and officers
- Quality and risk staff
- Nurses, doctors, pharmacists and managers whose work includes making care safer
