About the Care Certificate
The Care Certificate is the agreed set of standards for the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of new health and social care support workers in England. It was developed by Skills for Care, Skills for Health and Health Education England (now part of NHS England).
It is a set of standards, not a formal qualification. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) expects providers to induct new care workers to these standards.
What the course covers
The course follows the topics of the Care Certificate standards:
- Understanding your role and your own development
- Duty of care, equality and diversity, and working in a person-centred way
- Communication, privacy and dignity
- Fluids and nutrition
- Awareness of mental health, dementia, learning disability and autism
- Safeguarding adults and safeguarding children
- Basic life support, and health and safety
- Handling information
- Infection prevention and control
Who it is for
- New care workers, healthcare assistants and support workers
- Employers who need to induct new starters
- Existing staff who need a refresher
Parts of the Care Certificate are assessed by observing you at work, so your employer takes part in signing it off. Employers booking for a group can tell us the number of learners in the contact form.
